Cotton-candy pink plumes crown this show-stopping prairie plant in midsummer. Native to moist meadows of the eastern United States, it prefers moist soil but will perform brilliantly in rich garden soil. Grows well in full sun or partial shade. Attractive to bees and butterflies.

The leaves are also a point of interest—large and deeply lobed on zigzag stems. Though quite tall, this sturdy plant usually does not need staking.

Queen of the prairie can be spectacular, particularly when massed. Easy to grow, it spreads by rhizomes, making it an excellent choice for naturalizing in meadows or moist drainage areas. Use in borders (rear), cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, naturalized areas, or along stream or pond edges.
