Janna Beckerman, Ph.D., is a professor and extension plant pathologist specializing in diseases of horticultural crops at Purdue University. Her research and extension programs cover everything from apples to zinnias, and she teaches a graduate level course on plant disease diagnosis. She has developed the Purdue Plant Doctor apps with her colleague Cliff Sadof to aid people in identifying plant pests. The apps, which include Purdue Tree Doctor, Annual Doctor, Shrub Doctor, Perennial Doctor, and Tomato Doctor, are available in the iTunes store and Google Play store, and they also exist at purdueplantdoctor.com. Janna went into plant pathology because of her natural gifts, which include a very black thumb. In fact, her yard and garden are where she gets the best pest and disease photos for her apps and articles.
